Anxiety and Fear
Experiencing emotions of anxiety, fear and worry are totally normal. Again, experiencing episodes of anxiety, worry and fear are totally normal. Even the Pope experiences feelings and emotions of fear. We know what many of you are saying or thinking: "doesn't the Bible say in numerous places, "BE NOT AFRAID"? While this is true, a correct/proper interpretation of this scripture truth is: Do not remain afraid (allow episodes of fear to have continuous on-going free-reign, without making a conscious effort to examine/gently confront whatever belief is causing the fear, with Truth). This follows scripture's directive to 'be transformed by the renewal of your mind'. Doing this, will help one quickly realize that fearful thoughts are not 'them' (they don't stem from their new/true self, but from their old/false self). What research shows is that using our 'mind attention self' (MAS) self to welcome the fear (not try to eliminate or stop it), and move our MAS away from the mind's stories & commentaries, and to the feelings and sensations in the body (allowing them to run their course), is an important part of the overall healing process. See blog article from clinical psychologist, Dr. Gail Brenner. So, based on our experiences here at Healing Info. Ministries, we have come up with a helpful aide for one to use, when intense fear strikes. And, when we use the word fear here, we are referring to unhealthy fears. Not healthy fears such as, there is a major hurricane coming our way, and we better take precautions. Some folks write these points down on an index card, and carry them with them throughout the day. For when a strong, intense, fearful emotion strikes, it's often hard to even think straight. . . we know.

Breathe. If possible, stop, be still, and concentrate on your breath by taking a few slow - long deep breaths.
Welcome. My 'mind attention self' MAS acknowledges the fear and WELCOMES it. "Hi fear, you're just a normal part of my 'human condition . . . . . . remnants of my 'old man self' (former identity), and not my 'new man self' (true identity in Christ). I don't fight or try to eliminate you. I move my MAS from the 'story' in my mind, to any physical sensations in my body. They'll disappear in time.
Ask. My MAS asks . . . . "So, what false thought or belief caused this fear to surface? (Ex. A 'what if' thought about my health)
Truth. My MAS self' gently & joyfully responds with Truth from sacred scripture. "I don't worry about life, my body, or tomorrow". (Matthew's gospel).
Cast. My MAS self casts (gives) the 'fear' to God, believing by a faith, God takes it.
Presence. My MAS brings its 'attention' back to what is going on right here & right now. Back into the 'present moment' and away from listening to 'old man self' stories & commentaries'. (ex: what am I seeing right now ? what does this taste like? what am I touching? what are the sensations in my body? what am I smelling? what am I hearing/listening to?)
Thank. My MAS thanks God for the experience, knowing God's power is being perfected in me through these experiences.
At night time, my MAS proclaims, ALL thoughts and feelings that I experience while in bed, are totally meaningless & irrelevant. Because, I'm resting/taking a break from assessing/examining my thoughts and feelings for truthfulness, until another time.
