Relying on God
One of the most common reasons people give-up on the spiritual journey, is that they wear out, get tired, or get discouraged as a result of acting and relying on their own strength, rather than on the Lord. St. Teresa said 'self-reliance' nearly destroyed her. She said: "don't think that through your own strength, you can arrive. Our confidence MUST be placed in God. When we understand this, there will be no need to go about so tense. We will go about with a holy freedom. Trust in the mercy of God and not at all in oneself, and then we shall enjoy many more blessings than one can desire, even in this life". Pope John Paul said: "the temptation to think that results depend on OUR ability to act and plan, besets everyone".
